Driver's Education

Overview

Updated 3/18/2024

All classes are on a first-come, first serve basis with a max capacity of 50 students.  Students must be at least 14 and 1/2 years of age to be eligible to take the driver's education class.

Students must follow a 3-step process in order to be registered:

  1. Complete a Registration Form for an available course date. This form will automatically close once a class has reached capacity.
  2. After completing the registration, payment must be submitted at the New Bern High School front office during school hours.
  3. Once payment has been made (or a CCS waiver has been completed and approved), families must complete the Receipt Verification Form.

Note: Failure to complete all steps in the correct order may result in a student not being enrolled into the class

Upcoming 2023-24 Course DatesĀ

*Additional dates will be announced when they are available. Please check back for the next available classes or click on jdscarolinas.com for more information.

Students will meet with an instructor online every day during the time that the class is being offered. Students who sign up for this class will need to commit to a set day and time to meet with the instructor every day and to do the assigned work in a timely manner.  Time is TBD and will be sent out through email. The state requires 30 hours for the classroom part of this course.

Due to Covid-19, there is a backlog of driving. However, we are well on our way towards catching up. We will make every effort to complete the behind the wheel portion of class as soon as possible for your students. Please give us up to 6 weeks after you finish the classroom portion of the class. It very well may not take that long, but if you have not heard from a driving instructor by that time, please contact us. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Cost: The course is $45.00 and must be paid prior to the start of the class. Payments should be made at the front office of NBHS with any checks being made payable to NBHS.  Payment verification will be needed before the first class. You may be eligible for a fee waiver if you qualify for free or reduced lunch status.  If you are eligible for the fee waiver, complete the form and turn it in to the front office. CCS Fee Waiver Form
