Summer Ventures Description: Summer Ventures is a 4 week, cost-free, statewide science and math enrichment program for students with proven academic ability, motivation in the STEM fields of study, and emotional maturity. Summer Ventures takes students beyond the traditional boundaries of high school science and mathematics while exploring topics of interest to them and learning experimental design, laboratory skills, instrumentation, mathematical modeling, strategies in mathematical problem solving and more. Boys and Girls State Summer Leadership Program Description: Tar Heel Boys' and Girls' State is an intense one-week work shop concentrating on North Carolina government and politics. It's a leadership program of action where participants learn good government at the city, county, and state levels. It also teaches that preservation of our form of government depends upon intelligent, informed, and loyal citizens in combination with honest and impartial administration of government activities. Camp Hope 2019: A Camping Opportunity for Children with an Incarcerated Parent Description: Christ Church sponsors Camp Hope which is a week long summer camp for children who have a parent in prison. The purpose of the ministry is to break the cycle of incarceration for the children. The church provides coordination, registration of campers, scholarships and adult volunteers who go to camp with the children. VetCamp (University of Georgia Athens) Description: We are now accepting applicants to our VetCAMP 2019, which is scheduled for June 16-22, 2019. This program is offered to rising high school juniors and seniors and rising college freshmen to evaluate their skills and competitiveness as future veterinarians, provide mentorship and help them experience veterinary medicine as an exciting career path. Institute For Future Agricultural Leaders - NC A&T State University Description: The IFAL program is a 1 week residential program for rising high school seniors sponsored through the NC Farm Bureau. Students are exposed to the academic and research programs in the College of Ag and Enviro Sciences, and are familiarized with careers in the food, agricultural and environmental sciences. In addition, students gain experiences in leadership by participating in leadership training seminars, touring the NC General Assembly, and meeting governmental officials. NC Co-Op Leadership Camp Description: Each summer, the Council holds a week-long, overnight camp for youth, held at the NC FFA Center at White Lake, NC. Open to rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors, this camp features energetic and interactive workshops and presentations, outdoor recreation, leadership development, team building activities and small group sessions with an emphasis on how cooperatives operate. NCDPI Student Leadership Institute I AM CHARACTER… I AM LEADERSHIP… I AM SERVICE... This is the mantra chanted by participants of the annual Student Leadership Instituted hosted by the NC Department of Public Instruction. Description: In its eighth year, the institute, is designed to prepare students to take active roles in their schools and communities through service experiences that are aligned to the curriculum. It is divided into three cohorts: (1) rising fourth and fifth graders, (2) rising sixth through eighth graders, and (3) rising ninth through twelfth graders. Prospective participants register as a team of 4-6 students with at least one adult mentor from their school or district. Leader In Training Program (LIT) 2022 at Camp Don Lee Description: This four-week, intensive leadership experience is well-regarded in our region and offers a memorable & life changing experience that challenges participants mentally, physically and spiritually. The LIT program prepares youth for leadership in their schools, churches and communities. LITs have the opportunity to earn Red Cross First Aid, CPR, & Lifeguard, Wilderness First Aid and US Sailing counselor or apply for consideration for Advanced Counselor Training. National Youth Science Camp Description: The NYSCamp is a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) program hosted in the eastern mountains of West Virginia. Students will have an opportunity to conduct research at the nearby Green Bank Observatory and to explore the surrounding Monongahela National Forest through backpacking, mountain biking, caving, rock-climbing, and kayaking. SATELLITE STEM Camp Description: SATELLITE is a five day STEM outreach & leadership development program with the goal of exposing high school sophomores across under served communities in NC to STEM careers and post-secondary educational opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of STEM activities including, but not limited to: a field trip to the Museum of Natural Sciences, & workshops in paper sci., engineering, textiles, & agri. & life sciences led by NCSU faculty & students. Rotary Youth Leadership Program Description: Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe. In our Rotary District, current high school sophomores (10th grade) and current high school juniors (11th grade) are sponsored by Rotary Clubs to attend the event run by the club's district committee. Participants are chosen for their leadership potential. Rotary Clubs and the Rotary District cover all expenses for the participants.
