Educational Opportunity

Educational Opportunity (Code 1G) (CCS Ref Policy 4400.C.2)

Upon prior approval from the Principal, an excused absence for Educational Opportunity may be granted for participation in a valid educational opportunity.  The Principal may require a written report of the educational experience.  The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and comparable to that which a student would experience in school.  Family trips and vacations that are not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused.

Any requests should be submitted 2 weeks in advance to ensure proper review and approval.  The below form should be emailed to the Data Manager for initial review and forwarding to the Principal.

College Visits

Bona fide visits to local colleges will not require prior approval if the student submits notifcation from the school visited (formal letter, invitation email, attendance slip); excusal will be granted for the day of the visit only.  An extended visit that requires travel days will require Principal approval; no more than 3 total days of absence will be granted.  Failure to submit an advanced request will result in travel days being counted as unexcused.

Scholarship Events & Scouting Showcases

Attendance at a college sport scouting event or other scholarship opportunity must receive prior approval and be accompanied by a formal letter of invitation with specified dates.  An extended visit that requires travel days will require Principal approval; no more than 3 total days of absence will be granted.  Failure to submit an advanced request will result in travel days being counted as unexcused.
