Educational Opportunity
Educational Opportunity (Code 1G) (CCS Ref Policy 4400.C.vii)
Upon prior approval from the Principal, an excused absence for Educational Opportunity may be granted for participation in a valid educational opportunity. The Principal may require a written report of the educational experience. The intent of the experience should be educational from the outset and comparable to that which a student would experience in school. Family trips and vacations that are not designed, initially, to be educational will not be excused.
All requests for Educational Opportunity for a trip MUST in writing at least one week prior to the absence.
Please complete the Educational Opportunity Form to start the request process. An email will be generated to the Data Manager to start the approval process. Please see below for College Visits, Showcases, and Volunteer/Community Events.
Existing attendance records, grades, and quality of Educational Opportunity will all be considered. The parent/guardian will receive email verification of approval or disapproval.
*NOTE: Students will be required to submit a 1-page report per day of excused absence. This report should explain the educational value of the day, be double-spaced, and contain no more than 1 embedded picture. For a multi-day event, the report should be submitted at the conclusion of the trip. Absences will remain unexcused until the culminating report is received. All documentation should be submitted to the Data Manager, who will then notify the Principal of compliance.
