My name is Mrs. Kayla Anderson, and I am a math teacher at NBHS. I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a B.S. in mathematics in 2016 and the University of West Alabama with a M.A.T, in mathematics in 2021. I am originally from Mobile, Alabama and moved to New Bern after my husband was stationed at Cherry Point for the Marine Corps in December 2022. I am a mother to two beautiful children (daughter, Evonna and son, Liam).
As a teacher, I enjoy seeing students gain a sense of accomplishment and confidence from being in my classroom. Helping students reach their goals and giving them problem-solving tools that they can take with them after high school is something that helps drive me as an educator.

My name is Ms. Hannah Cox and I am a math teacher here at NBHS. I graduated from Appalachian State University with both a B.S. and M.A. in mathematics, secondary education. Upon graduation, I packed up my car and moved all the way across the state of North Carolina to New Bern to be closer to the beach. I am a cat mom to two wonderful cats, Milo and Bebe. I absolutely love being a teacher and my goal is to help students appreciate and be more confident in their mathematical abilities! Go Bears!

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Teaching Certification. I was one of the first two-year Teaching Fellows recipients.
I have lived in Craven County for over 25 years. In that time, I have been a parent, a volunteer, a substitute, and a teacher for Craven County Schools. I have learned that sometimes the most important people in our schools are the ones that the parents seldom see: the custodial staff, cafeteria staff, nurses, and volunteers. They do the work in support of the teachers and administration so that we can do our jobs more efficiently.

I have always known since I was little that I wanted to become a teacher and knew ECU was the best school to get my degree. I am originally from Havelock and wanted to attend a college close to home but far enough to have my independence. ECU is highly known for its education programs especially mathematics which helped me with my decision. I lived on campus in a dorm for two years and then lived off campus for my last two years, really giving me the overall experience as a college student. I enjoyed all four years at ECU and made a lot of friends with other students and professors, which I am still acquainted with to this day. One of the most important people I met at ECU was my husband, Mike. We have a 5 year old daughter, Arianna, and a new born daughter, Kylee.
One of my favorite college memories (my husband can vouch for me) is the week of final exams. The campus, particularly the library, was crazy! I couldn’t tell you how many times I pulled all-nighters, stared at a computer screen for hours, reading standing up so I wouldn’t fall asleep, and drinking gallons of coffee. I know it sounds ridiculous but all that excitement and stress was so easy compared to the real world that I am in now! There was always so much riding on exam grades and class grades because money and your degree were always on the line unlike high school. It was always an adrenaline rush for a whole week!
I became a teacher because I love helping people, especially young adults. Young adults are at such an influential place in their lives in high school and I really felt that I could make a difference in their lives. I also really love math and showing people how important and useful it is. Combining these has helped me tremendously be a better person and teacher.

I am a mighty New Bern Bear. I lumber through the forest, a sleek black shadow against the sun-dappled leaves. Though solitary, I'm no stranger to adventure, sniffing out berries and insects, scaling trees with nimble paws, and even taking a dip in the cool streams. Winter finds me curled in a cozy den, dreaming of spring's bounty. While cautious around humans, I'm a vital part of this ecosystem, ensuring its delicate balance. Remember, respect my space, and we can coexist in this wild wonderland.
