Mrs. Lori Prescott

I am the Career Development Coordinator at New Bern High School. Originally from Bath, NC, I graduated from Bath High School. After graduation, I attended Pitt Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration and Computer Programming. After 19 years working as the Client Accounting Coordinator for a large law firm and Office Administrator of a small law firm, I started working as Purchasing Agent for Craven County Schools. All the while my dream job was to be a teacher. I loved working with students, I completed my Business Information & Technology Education degree at East Carolina University. I continued my education by receiving my Master's Degree in School Counseling. When an opening became available to teach business at a middle school, I interviewed and was thrilled to accept the position. I loved teaching students about the business world and the vast opportunities available for their future. Later, the opportunity for the Career Development Coordinator became available at New Bern High School. I now use my skills as a supervisor, teacher, and counselor to help students prepare for their future through Internships, Job Fairs, Guest Speakers, and Self Assessments.

WHAT IS A CDC?

A Career Development Coordinator (CDC) works collaboratively with administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, business/industry, postsecondary institutions, military, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of career development services for students.

WHAT DOES A CDC DO?

Whether in one-on-one counseling with a student needing help with creating a resume and sharpening interview skills or putting together a career fair, the CDC works both publically and behind the scenes to help students secure a bright future after high school through employment, enlistment or further education or training.

HERE ARE A FEW WAYS A CDC WILL BE INVOLVED WITH YOUR CHILD'S FUTURE:

- Administer self-assessments to help define interests, determine skill sets, and set a career goal

- Resume and cover letter creation

- Help develop 4 year educational/career plans

- Career Fair

- Job/College Interview coaching

- Determine WorkKeys examinees which enables students to obtain Career Readiness Certificate

- Student Internships

- Apprenticeships

- Job Shadowing

- CTE field trips

- Guest speakers/industry reps

- Supports Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO)
